Oliver Barsby will give his unique Honda Civic FK2 – complete with LMP-inspired steering system – its race debut in this Sunday’s Racing Hondas Championship’s fixture at his local circuit of Donington Park.

The robotics engineer from Ibstock has spent the year painstakingly building the FK2 which he hopes can become a strong challenger for Class A honours in 2025.

“Donington and the remaining two events at Brands Hatch and Snetterton will be like test sessions,” says Oliver.

“Next year is the year. Hopefully it’s competitive with more development over the winter.”

One of the FK2’s most interesting designs is its steering system.

“The steering uses a standard electric rack with no internals so I had to fit an external motor and went for a drive system out of an LMP car.

“We’ve (Ben Sharpe Racing) shaken the car down already at Donington and the handling felt similar to an FN2, with very positive steering.

“There are a few other areas that are pretty unique and the modified car fans might like.

“The driveshafts we’ve made ourselves from other components and it’s fitted with a PracWorks inlet manifold – I’ve no idea if it will given an advantage; it just looks that bit better!

“I like to do things to the best I can. I suppose that comes from my work ethic. So I built something I really wanted to build for me and to best of my ability and something that looks the part.”
