Liam Collins dominated qualifying to put himself on pole position for round 11 of the Racing Hondas Championship at Donington Park later today whilst Nick Charlier and Ryan Cunningham were the fastest of the Class B and C runners.
Collins’s supercharged Integra DC2 was almost a second faster than arch Class A rival Dan Brown’s Civic Bali which lost its front splitter with an off at the Old Hairpin early on in the session.
The pair will go into today’s two races separated by just nine points at the summit of the Class A standings, with Brown (6 wins) ahead of Collins (3 wins).
“The car’s handling was totally thrown out without the splitter but even with it I couldn’t get to Liam’s times,” admitted Brown.
Collins said: “I’d say I could have gone maybe three tenths faster but I’m happy with that – the car feels very dialled into the Donington National circuit.”
Next up were Champion Philip Wright (Civic EP3), Kevin Talbot (Integra DC5), James Allen (Civic EP3) and Ryan Jenkinson (Civic FN2) as Class A cars filled the top six positions outright.
Charlier topped the B class entries in seventh with Jake Hewlett (P9), just a tenth adrift. Dave Buky and Tommy Knight were third and fourth (P11 and P12 overall). More B entries Paul Taylor, Andy Wheatley and Loui Hounsell followed in positions 13 to 16.
P17 was B points leader Alfie Jeakins who will be wary of Knight, Charlier and Buky in particular making up ground on him the class title race. All the above B drivers are in Civic EP3s.
There were no such concerns for Cunningham (EP3) in Class C, however. P20 outright, he was a second faster than nearest class challenger David Lawrence (FN2) who (in P23) was a fraction clear of next fastest C runners Spencer Fortag and Sam Linssner (P26 and P27 in their FN2 and and EP3 respectively).
