Dan Brown fended off Phil Wright to take victory by the closest margin seen in 2024 in the first of Snetterton’s final two Racing Hondas rounds.

On a drying track, outgoing 2023 champion Wright quickly started cutting Brown’s initial three-second advantage over him.

He spent the final four laps trying to find a way past but some defensive driving ensured Brown (Civic Bali) held on to take his 11th win of the season. Wright’s Civic EP3 looked like it might pass Brown’s Civic Bali on the drag to the finish line but was beaten by just 0.212s.

In third, after a strong comeback drive in the closing laps, was Kevin Talbot (Integra DC5) – the result his fourth podium in five races.

A fine fourth outright and claiming his first win in Class B was Paul Taylor. He’d used his Civic EP3’s nimbleness to qualify an excellent P4 outright in wet conditions and even ran as high as third during the race before relinquishing the place to Talbot late on.

Ryan Jenkinson took fifth in his Civic FN2 to effectively guarantee himself of third in the Class A standings whilst an uncharacteristically quite sixth was Liam Collins – his supercharged Integra DC2 struggling for grip and traction in the wet conditions.

After a rare error from Dave Buky, the Class B podium was completed by Charles Gates – a superb P7 on his Racing Hondas debut – and Loui Hounsell. With Taylor and Gates ineligible to score, Hounsell collected his first winning score of 2024 to take the fight for P3 in the B standings against Tommy Knight (10 outright and P4 in class) into the afternoon’s final round.

Class C was won, for the first time this year, by Spencer Fortag. He’d also qualified on class pole for the first time, although in the closing stages of the race he was being closed down by David Lawrence who was just over a second behind at the flag. Ed Sibbald completed the C podium.

Footnote: The race had to be restarted afresh after an opening lap off for Class A driver Rich Hockley whose Civic EK collected the barriers at the Wilson hairpin.

Rich was taken to the circuit’s medical centre for initial checks and then to hospital in Norwich for further examination before being given the all clear by medical staff there.
