Philip Wright will bring his 2023 title-winning Civic EP3 out of retirement in a bid for the Racing Hondas Championship’s Class B crown in 2025.
Wright recovered from a troubled start to 2024 to finish the season in style – winning the final round at Snetterton to narrowly miss out on a top-three finish in Class A.
But he believes the model of car he uses – the Civic EP3 – is better suited to a Class B campaign.
“The EP3 isn’t quite giving me what I need to take on the other cars in Class A, but in a Class B environment it becomes a competitive proposition – I’m not fighting against lighter cars,” he explained.
“So the car I raced in Class A at Cadwell Park earlier in the year (whilst his regular EP3 was being repaired following problems at Anglesey) will be coming back out for a crack at Class B in 2025. It’s the same car I won the 2023 title in.
“It’s a relatively straight forward conversion – apart from the repairs, the main thing is running a standard engine.
“Class B was very competitive in 2024 and it looks like it could be at least as good again in 2025.”
A rebuild of Wright’s 2025 EP3 is nearing completion – during its outing at Cadwell Park back in May, suspension failures led to two sizeable accidents, one of them at 120mph.
“I’m looking forward to racing with the number 63 again.
“63 has been my number for as long as I can recall expect of course for 2024 when I ran number 1 for winning the title in 2023. It’s almost like no.1 was a bit of a jinx for me.
“For 2025, I just want to have a good year’s racing and finish every race. If we win great if not no worries.”
Wright, aged 36 from Kings Lynn, has been a title protagonist in club-level tin top racing for close to a decade and says the value for money offered by the Racing Hondas Championship stands out.
“There’s a lot of exciting atmosphere at the events and of course some big crowds. For the club competitor, it feels like you’ve stepped up to another level of racing without spending more.”
